Microstructural aspects of the Captek alloy for porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations.

چکیده
CaptekTM (Precious Chemical USA Inc., Apopka, Florida) is a new, innovative development in dental materials. It is a dental alloy that can be defined as a composite material because it is internally composed of two different alloys. CaptekTM is a high gold content alloy (88% by weight) and is used in porcelain-fused-to-metal dental crowns and bridges. Composite metals containing metallic matrix and high module of elastic metallic filler can be structured to have better properties than single-component metals.1 Composite combinations exist in traditional dental materials, such as polymers with ceramic particles, glass powders with acid composites (cements), and metallic powders with metal composites (amalgams).2 This study examines the main chemical and physical aspects of CaptekTM microstructure, its composite characteristics and the differences between CaptekTM and traditional gold alloys for similar use.

Effect of Margin Design and Processing Steps on Marginal Adaptation of Captek Restorations
This study examined the effect of four margin designs on marginal adaptation of Captek crowns during selected processing steps. Twenty-four Captek crowns were fabricated, six each of four margin designs: shoulder (Group A), chamfer (Group B), chamfer with bevel (Group C), and shoulder with bevel (Group D). Marginal discrepancies between crowns and matching dies were measured at selected points ...

متن کاملComparison of the Effect of Nd:YAG Laser and Sandblasting on Shear Bond Strength of a Commercial Ni-Cr Alloy to Porcelain
Introduction: Failures might occur at metal‒porcelain interfaces as a problem with metal‒ceramic restorations even with the application of airborne-particle abrasion technique. This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of Nd:YAG laser treatment on the bond strength of porcelain fused to metal. Methods: Twenty-four cylindrical specimens (4 mm in diameter and 4 mm in height) were made of ...

Extensive restorations of single anterior teeth are accomplished by using porcelain jacket crowns or porcelain enamel or plastic veneer restorations supported by an alloy restoration that is luted to the tooth. The porcelain jacket crown has the advantage that less tooth tissue must be removed, but the material is brittle and lacks impact strength. Studies by McLean",2 have shown that these res...

Statement of Problem: In order to eliminate the esthetic problem of metal collar in porcelain fused to metal crowns various techniques, such as shoulder porcelain, have been suggested. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of repeated porcelain firing cycles on the marginal integrity of shoulder in porcelain fused to metal crowns, made of two kinds of alloys: noble and b...
